Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at our first appointment?

Our very first appointment will be mostly information gathering in order for me to get to know more about you and for you to know more about my therapy approach. I will ask questions about your past relationships, family life, and current stressors and goals for therapy. In addition I will ask you questions about your current interests and hobbies and activities that have helped you in the past to draw on all the tools and resources that you currently have in your pocket. At the end of the session we will work together to identify your specific goals for therapy. We then can discuss an approach and frequency that would best suit your needs.

I am currently paneled with Aetna Health as well as the Promise Network (through PRISMA health). I am able to file claims for you through my electronic health system.

If I am not in network with your insurance providers, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to insurance to access your out-of-network benefits.

Your first session, the initial assessment, is $175 for a 55-60 minute evaluation.

Individual therapy sessions are generally 55 minutes and are $135.

A superbill is a document that includes your name, diagnosis, the provider’s NPI and tax ID, and a code for the service you received. You can submit this document to your insurance company with your request for reimbursement. My system is set up to send you a superbill and a statement monthly or you can request one specifically after each appointment.

Some insurance companies will require you to meet an out-of-network deductible that is separate from your insurance-network deductible prior to reimbursement. Others will reimburse at a specific rate or percentage. I would encourage you to contact your insurance company to learn more about what they cover and how and if they reimburse for out-of-network services.

The type of service and how I perform therapy is no different in person or in a virtual setting. After COVID, many providers were able to successfully transition to a virtual therapy space, as several platforms and resources have now been made more readily available.

With virtual therapy, you will receive a link in your email and/or a text to access my telehealth portal. If you are on a mobile device, you may be prompted to download a telehealth app. Once you access this portal, you are directed to a virtual waiting room where I will join the video call shortly thereafter.

I maintain all of my records securely in a HIPAA compliant electronic health record (EHR) system. The video call is also kept secure through encryption and other protective HIPAA compliant features from the EHR service.

I work out of a home office and have put into place many devices in order to secure our meeting. I meet in a designated spot in my home away from others with the door shut. I use sound machines and other devices to block any sound carry. I do not keep any paper items with your information in my office space. I regularly update and maintain a password on all of my devices used for our meeting.

I also encourage my clients to protect their privacy as well and try to meet in a secure, private location. This will allow you the freedom to fully engage in the therapy process without concerns for who may be listening.
